I have an approved H1B visa without a visa stamp. Can I visit Canada and come back without stamping?

My husband and I decided to visit one of my relatives in Canada, but I don’t have an H1B stamp on my passport. I only have an expired F1 visa sticker. I was told I have a valid I797, and I can come back to the USA by automatic visa re-validation if I travel by land. Is this true? Can I come back safely without any issues?
